BPI Research Focus Areas
Berkeley Policy Institute Research Overview
Berkeley Policy Institute (BPI, formerly BRG Institute) works to advance knowledge on topics such as the global economy, the corporation, technological innovation (and research and development), financial institutions, and elements of law and policy through research, open publication, and public engagement.
BPI works in several interconnected research areas, including (although not limited to) competition policy, geopolitical risk, IP strategy, and international trade, as displayed in the schematic diagram shown below.
It is an aim of the Berkeley Policy Institute to build and communicate evidence-based insights relating to the intersections among competition policy, geopolitics, intellectual property, and international trade.
In the current rapidly changing global era, decision makers in both private and public sectors need evidence-based thought leadership within and across spaces including competition, geopolitics, intellectual property, and international trade. Such scholarship, analysis, and discussion must dynamically adapt to actual and perceived developments, e.g. a proposed regulation in one country or agreement among states could impinge on one, two, three, or all of these topics in different ways.
It is therefore necessary to study forces such as the above both discretely and via their intersections, and to consider additional related topics as circumstances evolve, such as higher education management and policy (and economic and national implications) in a time of financial and programmatic challenges.
